Phil has a background in public policy and international relations. He was an Australian Public Servant - including an Australian diplomat - for 23 years. Phil realised that he was lonely while on a diplomatic posting.
Phil knows how difficult it is to ask for help and support. He also knows that the help provided sometimes does not actually help alleviate the thoughts and feelings of loneliness.
Phil developed and now provides the services he needed when first learning from his loneliness. He's now passionately de-stigmatising loneliness worldwide.

On Tuesday 6 June 2023, Phil shared some of his experiences of loneliness throughout his life as part of the 'Alone' episode of SBS' Insight program in Australia.

Phil also shared some of the wisdom he'd learned after getting support and beginning to listen to his loneliness and what it was telling him about the connection he was missing.
​
This included sharing some of his story of how he became aware of his loneliness while on a diplomatic posting and how it influenced him to live life as authentically himself, including coming out of the closet to live life as a proud gay man and how he treats loneliness now.
